Govt. Brijindra College
As an institution the seed of Brijindra College was sown in 1875 when Raja Bikram Singh (1874-98) of Faridkot State founded its first Middle School. Then, after a quarter of century, in 1901, his successor Raja Balbir Singh ( 1898 - 1906 ) promoted this school to an Anglo-Vernacular High School. But the Raja was not destined to do more for the institution as he died in 1906, leaving the throne to his nephew BrijInder Singh, a minor at that time. As a result for more than a decade the administration of the State was run by a Council of Regency. The Regency in 1913 got erected at a cost of Rs. 75000, a magnificent building complex comprising the central building ( still the nucleus building of the Government Brijindra College ) and two boarding houses symmetrically disposed on its sides. The school was rechristened Brijindra High School ( the inscription stone to the effect is still preserved in the college )
in 1942, during the reign of Raja Har Inder Singh ( 1934-48) the school was made an intermediate college and affiliated to the University of Punjab, Lahore. The ninth and tenth standard classes were attached to the college. Probably at this time the school section was shifted to the northern wing of the boarding. The college was named Brijindra College and the school Balbir High School. After successfully running for two years, in 1944, the college was raised to degree level.
